It is my passion to provide a valuable contribution to research in biology. I achieve this by powerful know how combined with substantial experience and the necessary precision.

Throughout the years, I acquired extensive experience in different subdisciplines of biology. Starting with ecology, I analyzed the effects of human disturbance on seed dispersal. This notable publication is already cited by over 160+ researchers. I expanded my knowledge in cell– and molecularbiology to a high level by research of marine sponge cells in correlation with micro-/nanoparticles and human cells. As an enthusiastic and experienced lecturer, I am teaching at the Johannes Gutenberg-University of Mainz on a regular basis. Bioinformatics is one of the subjects that I lecture as a result of my experience in this special topic. Beside my work at the University, I am demanded by major publishing companies as a project manager and consultant.

Quantitative / real-time PCR
RNA Isolation from bacteria, cells and tissue samples. Analyses of sponge gene expression levels in different conditions.

Cryptochrome in Sponges: A Key Molecule Linking Photoreception with Phototransduction

“Sponges (phylum: Porifera) react to external light or mechanical signals with contractile or metabolic reactions and are devoid of any nervous or muscular system. Furthermore, elements of a photoreception/phototransduction system exist in those animals. Recently, a cryptochrome-based photoreceptor system has been discovered in the demosponge. The assumption that in sponges the siliceous skeleton acts as a substitution for the lack of a nervous system and allows light signals to be transmitted through its glass fiber network is supported by the findings that the first spicules are efficient light waveguides and the second sponges have the enzymatic machinery for the generation of light.”
